If it were not for the images: assessing the meaning of images in argumentation

Resumen

In this paper I propose to perceive visual argumentation as a distributed and extended form of cognition. To support this claim, some cognitive bases on the functioning of the perceptive act are discussed, as well as the explanatory complement that gives the Wittgensteinian perspective regarding the notion of seeing as. An im­portant part of the work focuses on giving real examples of uses of visual arguments to show that the idea of visual argumentation as extended and distributed cognition manifests itself as an intelligent resource to put in environment potential arguments for posterior uses, and thus reduce the cost of individual mental processing.
